Better Senderwood began as a response to the challenges faced by the Senderwood community in maintaining the neighbourhood’s cleanliness and functionality. In the midst of South Africa’s challenging governmental landscape, our City Councils often struggle to meet the demands of servicing our suburbs adequately. Grass and weeds began to flourish, unmaintained infrastructure blemished the neighbourhood, and the once-beautiful suburb started to lose its lustre.

A group of residents, who had reached their limit with the situation, decided to take matters into their own hands. Pooling their resources and leveraging their own time, they initiated efforts to clean up Senderwood, starting with areas such as Civin Street, Club Street, and Chaucer Street. These grassroots efforts began to make a noticeable difference in improving the appearance and functionality of the neighbourhood.

Realizing the potential impact of their collective actions, the community took a decisive step forward. With the support and guidance of Better Bedfordview, the SSBRA Ratespayers Association was reconstituted to form Better Senderwood.

Since its inception, Better Senderwood has made significant progress in revitalizing the neighbourhood. Working closely with local organizations and businesses, Better Senderwood has undertaken various clean-up projects, fixed pavements, and collaborated with schools and associations to maintain public spaces.

Despite the challenges, Better Senderwood is driven by a dedicated group of community volunteers, all of whom juggle demanding day jobs and busy lives.
